Why Blog? Who cares what I think...

“You can work quite hard in particularly online, and do quite well independently, but if you want to grow you need points of leverage and most of the come from knowing people” – Yaro Starak

“You don’t need to know the answer, you just need to know someone whom does” – Keith Lyons

The Internet has provided an open-ended source of information, accessible all over the world. Through blogging this information can be shared and learnt by anyone, as long as they ask the right questions somewhere someone one will be willing to share it.

For me the above quotes sum up exactly why I have started blogging. It isn’t about telling people what I know or proving a point, instead it is sharing ideas and creating connections and networks with people that know something I don’t. The more we as a society blog and connect with other people through information sources such as Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Blogger and Linkedin, the smarter we as a society become.

Blogging is good for your career. A well-executed blog sets you apart as an expert in your field. – Penelope Trunk

Over the last 3 months I have had an opportunity to engage in an online masters course. Through this opportunity I have been lucky enough to form networks with people that I would never have spoken to in a normal university setting. Through being exposed to such an environment I was able to realise that despite how much we as individuals know, there is always someone else that can add to our knowledge base. Some will add to it in infinite proportions and reshape the way we perceive the world or an idea, while others may only solidify what you already know but regardless of the size.

Regardless of your feelings towards sharing, connecting or working together one thing is clear. The information stored within the Internet has infinite boundaries to its knowledge, it is just a matter of finding someone that has the answer.
